The area of the Old Town in Rome was among the first ones to be videosurveilled in Italy. The city of Rome is divided in nine limited traffic zones.
Daily ZTL: Centro Storico, Tridente e Trastevere.
The ZTL of the Old Town, Centro Storico, is active from Monday to Friday 6:00am to 6:00pm, and on Saturday from 2:00pm to 6pm (except on public holidays).
The ZTL known as Tridente, is set inside the perimeter of the Old Town, but its traffic is regulated differently. The ZTL is active from Monday to Friday, from 6:00am to 7pm, and on Friday from 10:00am to 7:00pm.
The day-time ZTL of Trastevere is active from 6:00am to 10:00am (except on public holidays), but it’s accessible without penalty, from viale Trastevere.
Night-time ZTL: Centro Storico, Monti, San Lorenzo, Testaccio, Trastevere, Tangenziale Est.
During the night the area of Centro Storico ZTL is reduced, and Via Vittorio Veneto and the eastern part of via del Corso become accessible. However, the remaining area and the ZTL Monti are active from Friday to Saturday, from 11:00pm to 3:00 am.
San Lorenzo ZTL is active all year long as follows: Sep-Oct; May-July: Wednesday to Saturday, 9:00pm-3:00am. Nov-Apr: Friday to Saturday, 9:00pm-3:00am. Aug: suspended.
The ZTL of Testaccio is active every on Friday and Saturday of the year (except on August) from 9:30pm to 3:00am.
The night-time ZTL of Trastevere is accessible without penalty, from viale Trastevere. It’s suspended on August, and it’s activated as follows: Sep-Oct; May-Jul: Wednesday to Saturday, 9:30pm-3:00am. Nov-Apr: Friday to Saturday, 9:30pm-3:00am.
The Tangenziale Est ZTL is always active, from 11:00pm to 6:00am.
